The detail pictures are a very important part of the wedding photography. They can represent who the couple is, their style, as well as their family history. I always make a point of asking my wedding couples what details are important for them to be photographed.
It's best to have all of your prep details in one place at your getting ready location. They do not have to be styled or displayed in any particular way. I will take care of all of that when I am photographing them.
I always start the wedding day taking pictures of the details. It's a foundation for the story-telling and a bit of a montage for the day. I also find that the wedding guests become more acclimated to the photographer in the room when I don't photograph people immediately. It's a way for everyone to warm up to the photographer in the room.
