This picture was taken at the historic Hotel Bethlehem in Bethlehem, PA.
After I photograph the bride getting into her dress on the wedding day, I usually will take a few portraits of her using the natural window light. This is a beautiful quality of light that is very painterly. The reason it has this look to it is because the old master painters from centuries ago used a window to light their subject.
In this picture the bride, Courtney, is making some adjustments to her veil while looking at her bridesmaids and family. While it is more of a candid style picture, I would still consider it a portrait because I was giving her some direction to get this specific look. I also took some classic portraits of her looking at the camera. I always make a point of having variety with the wedding photography portraits and I find giving direction to my subject is important. Courtney would not have been in this beautiful light without me giving her some direction.
