This is the groom-to-be, Steve, reading a letter from his Fiance, Bethany, shortly before their wedding ceremony. An exchange of letters and/or gifts is something that a lot of couples will do on their wedding day.
When I am photographing a moment like this it is important for me to capture the emotions while not intruding. Also it's important to have good light and a non distracting background so the viewer can focus on the emotions of the subject. I will always ask the bride or groom to sit in a specific location to ensure all of these photographic elements. I then observe and anticipate any moments that there are without posing or staging anything.
